By undertaking GTBS businesses are accredited against a rigorous set of criteria including their commitment to saving energy and water, waste minimisation and purchasing of environmentally friendly products and services. The criteria also include a number of measures aimed at increasing biodiversity and preserving cultural values. Accredited businesses are committed to protecting the wildlife on their land and are encouraging opportunities for visitors to experience some of the magnificent sightings first hand. Some of the farm-based businesses are also working with RSPB to sensitively manage their land in order to attract bird life, especially for wading bird populations.
